Arcata

When we think of Arcata California we think of many things. The diversity of this northern California college town has allot more to offer than the campus for Humboldt State University. Historical hotels, secluded B&B's. Niche restaurants and quaint cafes, and theater and music venues. Community forest and sandy beaches, you're sure to find something memmorable to experience.

If you look at the architecture in Arcata you will notice that the sleek, modern lines of the big cities have not reached this far north as much as you would have expected by now. The center of town is a diversified collection of historial storefronts and victorian houses. The hotel and theater are both a reflection of the past. The shopping center north of town near the junction of HWY 299 E, more modern.

At the heart of Arcata is the Plaza. The Plaza is surrounded by stores, bars, coffee shops, restaurants, and live music venues, it has a green lawn, extensive flower plantings, and at its center a statue of President McKinley

In the 1850s the Plaza was where goods destined for the Trinity County mines were loaded onto mule trains.

It is also the center of Humboldt County's largest farmer's market (April through November), and serves as a major venue for local 4 July festivities, street vendors, the Arcata Main Street Oyster Festival,

and the start of the Kinetic Sculpture Race, which travels south through the Humboldt Bay area. Artisans use their imaginations and construction skills to develope some pretty interesting modes of transportation.

Your stay in Arcata comes with plenty of decisions to make however. Choosing where to stay; historical hotel, quaint B&B, secluded vacation rental, campground or RV park.

Arcata has a vast assortment of places to eat and many small boutiques, and specialty shops. Arcata has plenty of outdoor activities including fishing, beachcombing, bicycling, horseback riding, birdwatching, and more.
