Klamath on the Northcoast
Salmon Fishing, Mail Boats, Indian Museum,
the Redwood National Park
Klamath has been a popular vacation stop on the California north coast for fishermen and nature lovers for generations.
This is small community about a 30 minute drive south of
Crescent City
and sits along the banks of the river and is boardered by the Redwood National Park.
The Motel Trees and the historic Requa Inn, with it’s world famous dinner/seafood house and the new Restaurante Italiano However the Woodland Villa cabins and grocery store/gas station and the new "Subway" in the new Indian township fuel station with the mini mart offer snacks and those familiar sandwiches. Dotted with a few small family owned campgrounds; Camp Marigold, and Mystic Redwoods, & Blackberry Patch RV, offer seasonal to year round facilities along Highway 101 and Camper Corral, Kamp Klamath, Klamath River RV & River Beach Parks, adjacent to the river.
Highway 101 spans the Klamath River just south of the township. Golden Bears bid you on your way at both ends of the bridge and people often take pictures standing next to them.
SPEED TRAP!
Watch for this between the bridge as you start north toward the township since after coming north down off the 4 lane freeway with your cruise control on it's easy to forget and not reduce your speed down to the 55 MPH. Or, sometimes just as you come south down off the bluffs and the passing lane across the bridge at Wilson Creek and out onto the waters edge of the Pacific Ocean.
This river is quite popular during the salmon and steelhead
fishing
seasons.
Summer visitors and those just passing through enjoy taking one of the Mail Boat jet boat trips up the River.
There are several concessions along Hwy 101 going north of the townsite which offer a selection of smoked Salmon and Steelhead and even fresh fruit in season.
You might want to take a walking tour of the locally famous Trees of Mystery adjacent to Highway 101 across the street from the Motel Trees and restaurant.
Some people enjoy a step back into nature and like to take the tour through an ancient redwood forest with natures unusual shaped trees and Redwood Carvings.
The adventurous may even brave a ride through the tree tops on their new Sky Tram.
Even those who aren't that into nature hikes will probably like their Indian Museum and gift shop which are still popular with travelers and locals alike.
