Get driving directions for your vacation to the California North Coast starting here with

Del Norte County.

We're located along one of the most beautiful stretches of the California North Coast, with the city of

"Crescent City" (the county seat) about 30 miles south of the coastal Oregon boarder and 380 miles north of San Francisco.

Visitors usually choose to travel to the California North Coast by car to enjoy up-close and personal the spectacular scenery, abundant wildlife and the Redwood National and State Parks all around us.

eureka map Humboldt County is located a bit farther south on the California Northern Coast, with Eureka it’s county seat logging in (no pun intended) about 300 miles north of San Francisco and 100 miles south of the Oregon border on Highway 101. See northcoast map.

Surrounded by much of the Redwood National Park system, beautiful, clear rivers and Old Growth Redwood Forests it is a natural stop on your North Coast vacation adventure. Driving time from the San Francisco Bay Area is five or six hours if you’re move’n if you look at this north coast map.

Hwy 101 N will take you up through Sonoma, Mendocino, Humboldt and Del Norte Counties full of spectacular scenery and wildlife. There are plenty of things for you to do and see along the way.

The main route to and from California's North Redwood Coast is U.S. Highway 101 which parallels—and in Del Norte and Humboldt Counties, plays tag with—the Pacific Ocean.



Further inland, Interstate 5 takes you up California's central valley, or down from Portland, Oregon and provides access to the coast via Highway 199 at Grants Pass, Oregon and Highway 299 at Redding, California about a hour and a half to two hour drive, either way.


Roads in the northern most county's are sometimes pretty winding, take your time.

If you choose to get here faster. Air Travel is available to both Del Norte and Humboldt Counties.

The Crescent City airport at McNamara Field in Crescent City is just off Washington Blvd. at Pebble Beach Drive on Dale Rupert Rd., and is serviced by United Express with daily flights to Eureka/Arcata and San Francisco.

They are even working on plans to enlarge the runway to accommodate larger commercial airlines. Car rentals are available at the airport.

The Eureka/Arcata airport is served by two air carriers, United Express & Horizon Air , with flights from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Sacramento and Portland.

The airport is actually located in the town of McKinleyville, 12 miles north of Eureka, across from the beach. Motel and car rentals available there.
