Weather on the

California North Coast,

can change rapidly---Plan Ahead !

Weather can change rapidly along the California North Coast. Don't let it spoil your vacation.

All you need to know is right her in the form of an "Insider's" viewpoint to the changing conditions.

Did you know that I like our "Indian Summer" in early fall the best. It has cooled down in the interior valleys of both California and Oregon which let's the usual summer fog pattern to subside. Yet it is still warm enough and light outdoors enough for plenty of eveing strolls on the beach. Or bar-b-ques on the beach or at the river. I can't wait.

After all, we have a local saying around here: "If you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes, it'll change." And it often does.

That's why this California North Coast Vacation Travel Guide is worth checking often for updated weather conditions along the California North Coast.

One good example of our changing scenery is the way the ocean tides can effect your day at the beach.

Check the local tide tables. Be sure if stormy conditions are predicted to be extra careful with small children, they tend to wander off when you're not looking.

You may have never heard of "sneaker waves" but do you really know what they are?

This picture of the beach just north of the Crescent City lighthouse at low tide looks innocent enough.

However, if the conditions are just right, you, or your children may be enjoying a leisurely stroll along the rocky ,(or sandy) for that matter coastline and one of these "sneakers" can come out of seemingly no where and catch you off guard.

These can potentially carry you, a child or a family pet out to sea. People have even drown trying to save their loved one.

It happens. Trust me, so use common sense and do not leave frail or very young people unattended.

Luckily they are a very rare occurrence. I have only heard of two or three tragedies on the California North Coast near Crescent City, Smith River and Orick in the past 15 years or more.
